Overview

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake or Changgu Lake, is a glacial lake in Changu in the Gangtok district of the Indian state of Sikkim, some 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the capital Gangtok. Located at an elevation of 3,753 m (12,313 ft), the lake remains frozen during the winter season. The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons and is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Buddhist monks prognosticated after studying the changing colours of the lake.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Gangtok

Arrive at Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. Transfer to Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim. Check into your hotel and take some time to relax. In the evening, stroll around MG Marg, a popular pedestrian street lined with shops and eateries.

Day 2: Gangtok Local Sightseeing

Visit the Enchey Monastery, known for its stunning architecture and religious significance. Explore the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which houses a vast collection of Tibetan artifacts and manuscripts. Head to the Do Drul Chorten, one of the largest stupas in Sikkim. Optionally, visit the Flower Exhibition Centre to admire a variety of local and exotic flowers.

Day 3: Excursion to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir

Take a day trip to Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake located at an altitude of 12,313 feet. Continue your journey to Baba Mandir, a revered shrine dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh, a soldier of the Indian Army. Enjoy the scenic beauty en route and spend some time at the lake and shrine. Return to Gangtok in the evening and explore the local markets.

Day 4: Visit Rumtek Monastery and Namchi

Drive to Rumtek Monastery, one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim. Explore the monastery complex and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Continue your journey to Namchi, a picturesque town known for its religious and cultural significance. Visit the Char Dham, a complex featuring replicas of four revered Hindu pilgrimage sites. Return to Gangtok in the evening and relax at your hotel.

Day 5: Departure

Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing. Check out from your hotel and transfer to Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station for your onward journey.
