Kalimpong

Kalimpong is an east Indian hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Perched on a ridge above the Teesta River, it’s home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary. South, the hilltop Durpin Monastery, or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist scriptures. Deolo Park has landscaped gardens and offers views of the town and surrounding hills.

Sightseeing

  • Delo Hill

    It is one of the two hills that the town of Kalimpong stands between. Kalimpong is situated on a ridge connecting the two hills, Durpin and Deolo. The hill is 1,704 metres (5,590 feet) and is the highest point of Kalimpong town. The hill is located north east of the town. Three water reservoirs, two of which serve as the primary drinking water source to the town are present atop this hill. The town of Kalimpong, the surrounding villages of Relli valley, Teesta River and its valleys all can be viewed from this point.

  • Lolaygaon

    Loleygaon is a Lepcha village situated in the extreme end of a Himalayan ridge. It is located at a distance of 24 km from Lava, at an altitude of 1,675 meters. It comes under the Kalimpong district of West Bengal.

  • Silleri Gaon

    Sillery Gaon is situated at an altitude of 6000 ft. The area offers views of the Mt. Kangchenjunga and its allied peaks and the Teesta River. This area also abounds in cinchona plantation, which was introduced in the region by the British as a source of quinine used for the treatment of malaria.

  • Icche Gaon

    Icche Gaon or Echey Gaon is a village in the Kalimpong II CD block in the Kalimpong Sadar subdivision of the Kalimpong district of the state of West Bengal, India.

  • Jhandi

    Jhandi is a well known tourist spot in the Gorubathan Block offering glorious sun rise and sun set views, wide angle view of Mount Kanchenjunga and the Nathula Range as well as the Dooars. It is about 16 km from Gorubathan. Throughout the year it is cold and misty here. The rich wildlife here also makes it one of the most picturesque destinations for tourists. Home-stays and private eco huts are also available here for tourists.
