KALIMPONG
A historic town nestled in the lush green ranges of the mid Himalayas. Kalimpong town is located on a ridge connecting two hills, Deolo Hill and Durbin Hill, at an elevation of 1247 meters / 4091 feet. It is a tourist destination owing to its temperate climate and proximity to popular tourist locations in the region. The area around Kalimpong lies in the Eastern Himalayas and is classified as an ecological hotspot.
It is one of only three among the eco regions of India. This hill station has an incredible stunning backdrop of towering snow capped peaks of Himalayas. It is an exotic town of beautiful people, mystical and enchanting atmosphere. It has a blend of hill people with a tradition of hospitality and is also a religious centre of Buddhism. This town is situated at an altitude of 1,250 metres with a moderate climate ranging from between 15°C to 25°C in summer and 7°C to 15°C in winter, offering round the year comfortable weather. It is approximately 80 kilometres from Siliguri. There are some scenic routes to Kalimpong from Siliguri specially the Gorubathan route. Lava, Lolaygaon, Deollo are beautiful spot for film shootings. Greenery and the valley around Kalimpong are mesmerizing and on a clear day the back drop of Himalaya is scenic and adds to the beauty of the locations. Kalimpong is historical and one can find old and heritage buildings are still proof of all those bygone era. One such building is Morgan House a classic example of colonial architecture. Kalimpong is also known for its nurseries it has a flower market notable for its wide array of orchids; and it is one of the largest exporters of Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes.
